HISTORY OF LUNADA BY HOMEOWNERS ASSOCIATION

In the Fall of 1999 some concerned citizens meet at the home of Jean Burke and under the leadership of Alanna Kennedy and formed a committee to address the issues of Lunada Bay and its homeowners. The result was the formation of the Lunada Bay Homeowners Association.

Danny Nieman, Robin DeBraal, Alanna Kennedy, Randy Smith served as the first officers. The first official function was Sunday, January 16, 2000. The purpose was to raise awareness of the membership and to support the local merchants.

This first event was a cocktail party in the patio of the Lunada Bay Plaza Building. At this event plans for the new South Entrance of the City were exhibited.

The Lunada Bay Homeowners Association has achieved some remarkable successes in the first five years of its existence. Besides becoming a non-profit organization, LBHOA has initiated or facilitated:
  • creation of the Carrillo neighborhood park
  • design and construction of the south entrance to the City
  • planting of part of the Median
  • initiation of the Harvest Festival
  • establishing an annual Santa’s visit
  • creation of the Rico Place Park
Finally, one of the most significant achievements was the transformation of the vacant land of a former gas station into the beautiful centerpiece of our community, the Lunada Bay Park.

Other rresidents that were instrumental in the formative years of the Associations were Bob Kennedy, Sara Smith, Don Culler, Marleen Breen. As the Association grows, new leadership and new projects will be added to this list of accomplishements.
