Vibes Alive!

Lunada Bay Park
Vibes Alive is a contemporary jazz group featuring Dirk Richter on vibes, Randall Crissman on guitar, Fred Johnson on bass, and Scott Babcock on drums. Vibes Alive climbed the radio charts in 2008 and 2009 with national airplay on smooth jazz radio. Currently the group enjoys playing Straight Ahead and Bluesy Jazz.

Dirk Richter’s story is about discovery and passion. Before Dirk was even old enough to go to school, he was hanging out at the local music store. At the tender age of eight, he was studying music intensely on a daily basis. By the time he was nine, Dirk was gigging as a sideman with other youngsters in a band called the Tax Exemptions.

Influenced by Jeff Lorber, George Duke and Lionel Hampton, Dirk became a serious mallet player by the age of ten. After high school he studied at Pasadena City College with Gary Foster who had a Monday night big band, thoroughly immersing himself in the local Pasadena jazz scene.
It was in Pasadena that Dirk would meet his future band members, Freddie Johnson, Scott Babcock and Randall Crissman, a guitar playing television composer with a string of credits that include MTV, CBS, FOX and Nickelodeon for shows like Life with Louie, Fatherhood, Joe Millionaire, Access Hollywood and The View.
